Dragon costume Sew Along – 2 – TAIL

Weiter geht’s mit dem Crazy last-minute Ohnezahn-Kostüm!

Today we’ll be making the dragon’s tail.

ZUM SCHNITTMUSTER GEHT’s HIER!

Mittlerweile gibt es zudem ein VIDEO-TUTORIAL!

 

1. Schneidet die Schwanzflügel aus schwarzem SnapPap aus (2x den oberen, 1x den unteren).
Den 2. hinteren Flügel schneidet Ihr 1x aus braunem SnapPap aus.

Cut your tail wings from black SnapPap (top wing 2x; bottom wing 1x). Then cut the bottom wing 1x from brown SnapPap



2. Zerknüllt und verdreht Eure Flügel ordentlich,
damit sie weicher werden und eine Lederoptik bekommen.

Crumple up yout wings, squeeze and wring them a bit to make them softer and give them that leather look & feel.

3. Malt den braunen Schwanzflügel rot an. (Zumindest die Seite, die oben liegt, wenn die Zacken nach links zeigen)

Paint the brown tail wing red.
(at least the side that is up when the tips point left)

4. Jetzt geben wir den Flügeln „Streben“/Knochen.
Legt den schwarzen hinteren Flügel vor Euch, so dass die Zacken/Spitzen links liegen. Faltet eine geschwungene Linie, wo später eine sein soll (Wie im Bild, bis zur ersten Spitze)

Now we’ll give the wings a bone/finger texture.
Put the black bottom wing down in front of you, the tips pointing to the left. Fold a curved line where you want to have it (like in the picture; ending in the first tip)

Näht knappkantig an dieser Falz entlang.

Sew along this fold, closely to the edge.

Wenn Ihr jetzt den umgeknickten Teil an der Falz wieder hochklappt und feststreicht…

If you fold the top of the wing back upalong the seam now…

Habt Ihr auf der Rückseite diese Struktur:

You’ll have this kind of structure on the other side of your wing:

Und so macht Ihr jetzt immer weiter:
Die nächste Linie knicken…

And you continue like that down your wing:
Make the next fold…

nochmal aufklappen um den Verlauf der Linie zu kontrollieren..

unfold and check if the line is where you want it to be…

dann wieder an der Falz entlang nähen…usw. 🙂

then sew along the fold again…and so on 🙂

Das Nähen kann, je geschwungener die Linie ist, etwas knifflig werden, weil sich Falten bilden. Geht aber und sieht hinterher toll aus!
Und das macht ihr jetzt bei allen Flügeln so.

Sewing might get harder as the lines get more curved, because you’ll get extra folds in there, but it’ll work and look great in the end!
So you do this to all your tail wings.

Wenn Ihr der Anweisung zum hinteren Flügel gefolgt seid, habt ihr in der Folge einen Flügel für rechts. Achtet darauf, wenn Ihr Falten in den roten Flügel macht, dass Ihr spiegelverkehrt vorgeht, damit die Struktur hinterher auf der roten Seite ist und der rote Flügel später für die linke Seite des Schwanzes ist.

If you’ve followed the instructions for the bottom wing, your black bottom wing will be one for the right side of the tail. When making the red one, make sure you do everything mirror inverted, putting the structure on the red side of the wing and making it one that belongs on the left side of the tail.

5. Jetzt können wir mit den 3 schwarzen Flügeln und 2 aus schwarzem Stoff ausgeschnittenen Schwanzteilen den Drachenschwanz nähen.
Bite beachtet, dass ich das Schnittmuster für einen 120cm großen Jungen gezeichnet habe. Ihr könnt die Schwanzlänge an Eurem Kind abmessen und das Schnittmuster entsprechend verlängern oder auch kürzen.

Now we can make the dragon’s tail with 2 tail parts cut from black fabric and the 3 black tail wings. Please note that I made the pattern to fit a 120cm tall boy. You can measure the tail length your kid will need and adjust the pattern accordingly.

Legt ein Schwanzteil vor Euch, rechte Seite nach oben, und die Flügel so daran, wie sie später liegen sollen, mit der Struktur nach oben.

Put one of the tail parts in front of you (right side up) and place the the wings alongside of it where you want them to be in the end, with the wing structure facing up.

Klappt die Flügel jetzt nach innen (dann ist die Struktur unten, also rechts auf rechts mit dem Stoff), so, dass die Kante der Flügel auf der Schwanzkante aufliegt. Klemmt oder steckt die Flügel hier fest.

Fold the wings over to the inside. The structure is now facing down (wings and tail are now right sides facing). Adjust the wings so that the edges are on the edge of the tail. Clip or pin them into place.

Jetzt legt ihr das 2. Schwanzstück rechts auf rechts auf und näht alle Lagen zunächst auf der rechten Seite fest.

Place the 2nd tail piece on top, right sides facing, and sew all layers together on the right hand side first.

Anschließend rollt ihr die Flügel im Innern so zusammen, dass Ihr die linke Seite zusammennähen könnt.

Then, roll the wings up in the middle to be able to sew together the left side of the tail.

6. Wenden und mit Füllwatte stopfen.

Turn right side out and fill.

7. Nehmt Euch den roten Flügel, Schneidet 2 Schlitze hinein, wo ihr ihn festbinden wollt und legt einen Streifen SnapPap, ein rotes Band oder etwas ähnliches hindurch….

Take your red tail wind and cut two slits where you want to connect it to the tail. Pull a stripe of SnapPap, bias tape or red ribbon through the slits…

..und befestigt ihn mit Snaps, einem Knoten oder einer Naht am Drachenschwanz.

…and connect the wing to the tail with snaps, a knot or a seam

Fertig!
Also…quasi…

Der Schwanz muss oben natürlich noch geschlossen werden und wird dann irgendwie am Kind befestigt. Das geht wahlweise
– mit Snaps (Gegenstücke am unteren Ende des Hoodies)
– indem man den Schwanz an einem Band oder Gummi oder Gürtel festnäht, den das Kind abnehmen kann

…und Perfektionisten wie ich malen natürlich jetzt noch ein weißes Symbol auf die Flügelprothese… 😉


Done!
Well…sort of…

Of course you still need to close up the top of the tail and then find a way to attach it to your kid.
You could do that
– using Snaps (attach the other part of the snap to the bottom of your hoodie)
– by sewing the Tail around or to a belt, an elastic band or a ribbon, so the kid can take the tail off whenever it wants

..and perfectionists like me add a white symbol to the red wing prothesis… 😉

Morgen folgt der letzte Teil des Kostüms: Die Rückenflügel.
Nicht wundern: dazu habt Ihr noch kein Schnittmuster. Das zeichne ich gerade… das bekommt Ihr morgen mit der Anleitung.
