last-minute Ohnezahn / Toothless costume sew-along

Neuer Wunsch: OHNEZAHN!

If you’re a follower on facebook, you might have heard that my son just recently decided that, for carnival, he didn’t want to be what he was for carnival last year after all. (very recently… as in: just barely a week before carnival!)
Sure… change of mind…happends…
His new idea: TOOTHLESS!
[you know…that black dragon [Nightfury] from „how to train your dragon“]

ok…I guess I’ll go and make a costume then 😀

And since i’ve got soooo much time left, and I might not be the only mommy out there, in need of just that costume, I’ve decided to share my drawings and files with you and provide you with some (quick&dirty, nothing too detailed) instructions while I work on said costume.

So, if you’re in a hurry like me.. or need an idea for Halloween already…or you come here a year from now…:
welcome to the last-minute Toothless costume Sew-Along!

Hier Eure Einkaufsliste                                                               Here’s what you’ll need:

– einen schwarzen Hoodie + Hose                                         – a black Hoodie and pants
– Stoffmalfarbe für dunkle Stoffe in                                        – fabric paint for dark fabrics:
gelb, weiß,grün,schwarz (evtl blau)                                        yellow, green, white, black (maybe blue)
– Wer nen Plotter hat:                                                               – if you have a cutting machine:
schwarze Flexfolie                                                                     black heat transfer material
– 1 Bogen SnapPap schwarz *                                                   – 1 sheet of black SnapPap*
– 1 Stück braunes SnapPap (zur Not geht auch schwarz)        – 1 piece of brown SnapPap
– rote Farbe für das braune SnapPap                                       – red paint for brown SnapPap
(Textilfarbe/andere rote Farbe)                                                (fabric color or other red paint)
– ca. 30cm schwarzen Stoff (volle Breite)                               – approx.30cm black fabric
– schwarzes Schrägband/Schleife/Gummiband/Gürtel           – Black ribbon/Bias tape/Elastic/belt
um den Drachenschwanz ans Kind zu bekommen                  to connect the dragon’s tail to your kid
(Alternativ: KamSnaps zum Befestigen am Hoodie)             (alternatively:
KamSnaps to connect the tail to the Hoodie

– Draht (ca. 3-4mm Durchmesser. Kleiderbügel geht auch!)   – wire (3-4mm Diameter. Clothes hangers work fine!)

This is the amount if you want to make your back wings from SnapPap.

If you decide to make them from fabric, like I did in the end, you will need:
– approx.1m of black fabric (1,10m -1,20m if you want to be on the safe side for kids bigger than 116cm).
– if you want: some batting (but you can make them fabric-only, too).
– about 20cm of black elastic band
– 2 black Snaps if you want to connect your wings to your hoodie with snaps OR: more black elastic band to make shoulder straps.

I think that’s all.
So: You go get all that…(I’m gonna go run downtown again myself)!
And then I’ll get back to you again later on today with the first part of the Tutorial: The Head

EDIT: Fotos des fertigen Kostüms findet Ihr in diesem Post
Pics of the finished costume are in this post
