Seepferdchen Schwimmabzeichen anbringen

If you have the honourable task to sew a „sea horse badge“ to a swim suit, the first challenge you face is that when you get them at the swimming pool, they look like this:

Nicht rund!

Not round!

I’ve made a video tutorial (in German), showing you three different ways to turn said badge into a round one, before you can sew it to your child’s swimsuit or shorts.

Meine favorisierte Methode geht so:
Here’s how my favorite method goes:

Cut out your badge with additional seam allowance and melt the edges with a lighter.
Then take your sewing needle and thread and sew around the badge on the seam allowance with long stitches.

Place a cardboard circle the size of your badge on the back of it, and pull at the end of your thread. You will notice the seam allowance folds around the cardboard.

Now iron your seam allowance onto the carboard circle, from the outside toward the inside.
Make sure your iron is not too hot (choose temperature for synthetic material)!

Once you now remove the cardboard circle, you’re left with a wonderfully round badge!

Make sure you use jersey or stretch needles for sewing on your seahorse badge, so you don’t ruin your kids bathing suit. These needles have a ball point tip which glides through the fabric’s fibres without destroying them.
For the same reason you should try not to use your standard pins but jersey pins or simply use the remaining jersey sewing needles from your package.

I like sewing these badges on with a ladder stitch.
You start by folding up one part of your badge and directing your sewing needle under the seam allowance and out through the edge of the badge. This way, your knot stays in between the swimming suit and the badge.

and now you just sew once around the badge…

Ich hoffe das hilft Euch weiter!

I hope this helps 🙂
